GLOBAL WALK FOR AYITI

From all over the world, we walk as one.

In cities around the world, Haitians and friends of Ayiti will come together to symbolically walk the 4-mile path leading up to La Sitadèl in Ayiti. This iconic fortress—one of the greatest architectural achievements in world history—was built to defend Ayiti’s hard-won independence following the Haitian Revolution. Walking this path symbolically places participants in the footsteps of thousands of Haitians who courageously fought for their freedom.

Participating in United in Legacy is a powerful act of remembrance and commitment—honoring their sacrifi ce while advancing the vision of a prosperous Ayiti.

On September 20, 2026—the birthday of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, leader of the Haitian Revolution and Ayiti’s fi rst head of state—participants across the globe will walk in solidarity. Funds raised will go toward building sustainable wealth in Ayiti through the Ayiti Community Trust.

Where We Walk

Participants walked in 8 locations in 2025 - Miami, Okap, Okay, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Chicago and Qatar.
You can walk individually or as a group wherever you are. You can even be a community champion and build a team!

Raising Funds for Ayiti!

The ultimate goal of United in Legacy is to raise funds so that Ayiti Community Trust can continue funding sustainable development projects in Ayiti like the ones led by our grantees.

Rallies

In 2025, we met together before the walk to get fi red up! Starting in the summer, we met once a month until the walk to spark energy and one last time after the walk. It was a chance to link up with teammates, dive into a little friendly team competition, and most of all, feel the power of moving as one for a stronger, more prosperous Ayiti.

How do I register for the 2026 walk?

Registration for the walk starts HERE with a Google Form submission. Then a donation via the event webpage. Follow the steps provided after submitting to get your spot secured!

Is there a fee to participate?

Yes, we are both walking and raising funds — channeling the collective energy of the walk into tangible support for Haitian-led, community-driven projects in Ayiti. We want everyone who believes in this work to be able to participate. Rather than setting a required fundraising amount, we invite you to make a contribution that is meaningful and accessible to you, wherever in the world you are participating. Every gift—at every level—moves us toward our shared goal.

What is Ayiti Community Trust?

We are a community foundation that invests in sustainable development projects in Ayiti that focus on civic education, environment and entrepreneurship. We support community-led and Haitian-led projects to ensure long-lasting impact.

Is this a fundraiser?

Yes! The purpose of the walk is two-fold: 1) Come together as the Haitian Diaspora to celebrate the life and legacy of Dessalines, and 2) Raise funds to support Haitian organizations that are doing great work in Ayiti that need more backing.

What do I have to gain?

Connecting to your culture, celebrating the courageous acts of your ancestors, and paying it forward by supporting the courageous acts of present-day Haitians who are building sustainable projects in Ayiti. At a minimum though - you're getting some exercise!
